GENDER AFFAIRS 2ND VIRTUAL LIVE DISCUSSION
The Department of Gender Affairs within the Ministry of Education, Youth, Culture Social and Library Services will be hosting its 2nd Virtual Live Discussion under the theme “Understanding Gender Roles and Strengthening the Family Unit” on September 17 – 18, 2020, commencing at 6:00 p.m.
It is anticipated that this forum will further enhance and improve the understanding of Gender Roles in the family setting and thereby help young males and females adapt to new behavioral patterns.
The traditional roles portrayed in the family setting, in light of both males and females being career oriented and seeking financial security, many times leaves pressures to be borne upon the female alone having to endure the day to day functioning in the home setting.
It is understood that our past historical behaviors which expected men to go out to work while women stayed at home to deal with the domestic responsibilities has now radically changed as both men and woman are breadwinners.
This 2-day Virtual Live Discussion involving men under the theme “Understanding Gender roles and strengthening the family unit” is focused on helping to bridge the gap in gender roles that results in informal conflicts. This outreach initiative is in keeping with our mandate that seeks to promote gender equality and sustainable outcomes. It would also bring comfort and positive outcomes in the lives of our young women, men and families across the Turks and Caicos Islands.
It is hoped that this open discussion, particularly with males, will better facilitate a new awareness of this challenge.
We are looking to see you log on and be a part of this intriguing discussion.
