Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos Islands – Friday, 26th June 2026: The Turks and Caicos Islands Commonwealth Games Association (TCICGA) and the Turks and Caicos Islands Amateur Athletic Association (TCIAAA), in collaboration with the Department of Culture, are pleased to announce the staging of the Rt. Excellent JAGS McCartney Road Relay in Grand Turk on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, beginning promptly at 4:30 p.m.
This year’s relay holds added significance as it coincides with the birthday of the Right Excellent JAGS McCartney, the Turks and Caicos Islands’ National Hero. The event forms part of ongoing efforts to honour his life, leadership, and enduring legacy, while celebrating his invaluable contribution to the development of the nation.
Reflecting on the importance of the occasion, a representative of the organising committee noted:
“This relay is more than a sporting event—it is a powerful tribute to the life and vision of the Right Excellent JAGS McCartney. As we mark his birthday, we are reminded of the responsibility we carry to uphold his legacy through unity, service, and national pride.”
The relay will commence at the JAGS McCartney Memorial Site and proceed through the island, culminating at the Parade Grounds. Participants and spectators alike are encouraged to line the route, show their support, and take part in this meaningful observance—whether by walking, running, or cheering on participants.
Following the relay, attendees will gather at the Parade Grounds for a featured exhibition cricket match with the Titans Cricket Club, adding a spirited and engaging highlight to the evening’s activities.
The event is expected to bring together a wide cross-section of the community, including government officials, athletes, students, uniformed groups, cultural performers, and families. It promises to be both a reflective and celebratory occasion, reinforcing the importance of honouring national heroes while fostering unity and national pride.
