Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands - Monday, 4 May 2026: The Employment Services Department within the Ministry of Immigration and Border Services joins the global community on May 1st, 2026, in observing May Day under the 2026 theme “Empowering Workers, Strengthening Our Future.”
This year’s theme underscores the critical role that workers play in national development and highlights the importance of fostering an environment where individuals are supported, protected, and equipped to thrive. It reflects a shared commitment to advancing labour rights, promoting decent work, and building a resilient and inclusive workforce.
May Day is internationally recognised as a time to honour the contributions of workers and to reflect on the historic struggles that have shaped modern labour protections, including the establishment of the eight-hour workday and the advancement of safe and fair working conditions.
We pause to recognise and acknowledge the invaluable contributions of every worker across the Turks and Caicos Islands. From offices to construction sites, classrooms to coastlines, workers across all sectors continue to drive the growth and prosperity of our Islands.
This observance is not only a celebration of hard work and dedication, but also a call to action to invest in our people. It reminds us of the importance of creating opportunities, strengthening protections, and ensuring that all workers are empowered to reach their full potential in safe, fair, and supportive environments.
Labour Commissioner, Mr. Alpheus Smith, stated: “I extend my sincere appreciation to the men and women whose dedication and resilience continue to shape our nation. This year’s theme, ‘Empowering Workers, Strengthening Our Future,’ reflects our ongoing commitment to ensuring that workers are not only protected, but also equipped with the opportunities and support needed to thrive. As a department, we remain focused on advancing labour standards and fostering a workforce that is strong, skilled, and future-ready.”
Minister of Immigration and Border Services, Hon. Jamell Robinson, added: “We stand in solidarity with workers across our nation and around the world. The strength of the Turks and Caicos Islands lies in its people, hardworking, resilient, and committed to progress. As a government, we remain steadfast in our responsibility to protect workers’ rights, promote equitable opportunities, and ensure that our development is inclusive and sustainable for all.”
The Employment Services Department continues to play a critical role in supporting fair labour practices, facilitating workforce development, and ensuring that employment opportunities are accessible and aligned with national priorities.
As we observe May Day 2026, we encourage continued collaboration among employers, employees, and the wider community to uphold the principles of dignity, equity, and opportunity for all. By empowering workers today, we lay the foundation for a stronger and more prosperous future.
Let us celebrate not only the work we do, but the shared vision that drives us forward. Together, we can build a future where every worker is valued, empowered, and given the opportunity to succeed.
Happy May Day to all, and may God continue to bless these Turks and Caicos Islands.
