Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands – Tuesday, 21 July 2026: The Honourable Rachel Marshall Taylor, Minister of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture, has extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Team Turks and Caicos Islands as the nation prepares to participate in two major international sporting events this summer – the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, from 23 July to 2 August 2026, and the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from 24 July to 8 August 2026.
The Turks and Caicos Islands will be represented by athletes competing in swimming and athletics at the Commonwealth Games, while Team TCI's participation at the CAC Games will include athletes in swimming, athletics, sailing and waterskiing.
Minister Marshall Taylor noted that the simultaneous participation in both multi-sport events reflects the continued growth and development of sport within the Turks and Caicos Islands and demonstrates the increasing ability of local athletes to compete at the highest international levels.
"Representing the Turks and Caicos Islands on the international stage is both an honour and a tremendous responsibility. On behalf of the Government and people of the Turks and Caicos Islands, I extend our sincere congratulations and best wishes to every athlete, coach, manager, official and volunteer who forms part of Team TCI.
These athletes have dedicated countless hours to training and preparation and now have the opportunity to proudly carry our flag before the world. Their participation is a testament to their resilience, discipline, and commitment to excellence.”
The Minister further emphasised the Government's continued commitment to supporting the advancement of sport, athlete development, and opportunities for young people throughout the Turks and Caicos Islands.
"Sport remains a powerful vehicle for youth development, national pride, health promotion and international engagement. We remain committed to creating pathways that allow our athletes to pursue excellence and inspire future generations of Turks and Caicos Islanders.”
The Minister and officials from the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture will attend official engagements associated with the Commonwealth Games, including the Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting, where ministers from across the Commonwealth will discuss opportunities for collaboration and the role of sport in advancing healthier, fairer and more equitable societies.
Minister Marshall Taylor also expressed appreciation to the Commonwealth Games Association Turks and Caicos Islands, the Turks and Caicos Islands Sports Commission, national sport governing bodies, coaches, sponsors, parents and supporters whose dedication and partnership continue to make these opportunities possible.
"As a nation, we stand united behind Team TCI. I encourage all residents of the Turks and Caicos Islands, both at home and abroad, to rally behind our athletes and support them as they compete with determination, integrity and national pride.
Regardless of the results, each member of Team TCI already serves as an outstanding ambassador for our country.”
