Mrs. Sonia Fulford Missick has done exactly that, transforming the landscape of football in the Turks and Caicos Islands while elevating our nation’s profile on the global sporting stage.
A former multi-sport athlete, Sonia has dedicated the past two decades to advancing football through purposeful leadership, strategic vision and unwavering commitment. After serving as General Secretary of the Turks and Caicos Islands Football Association (TCIFA) since 2006, she made history in 2014 by becoming the Association’s first female President.
Since then, she has continued to redefine what is possible, both nationally and internationally.
Sonia’s leadership has earned the confidence of the world’s football community. She became one of the first women elected to FIFA’s highest governing body and has since been re-elected on multiple occasions, making her one of the longest-serving female members of the FIFA Council. She has also broken barriers as the first woman elected to a voting seat on the Concacaf Council and has served on numerous FIFA Standing Committees and the FIFA Foundation Board, helping to shape the future of the global game.
Her recent appearance on football’s biggest stage during the FIFA Men’s World Cup 2026, was a defining moment, not only for her personally, but for the Turks and Caicos Islands. Standing before millions as part of the official medal presentation ceremony reflected the tremendous respect she has earned within international football. It was a proud reminder that excellence, integrity and determination can carry a small island nation onto the world’s biggest platform.

While the international accolades are impressive, Sonia’s greatest impact continues to be felt here at home.
Her vision has driven the expansion of football opportunities across the Turks and Caicos Islands. The recent partnerships that brought modern football pitches to the communities of North Caicos and Kew Town, Providenciales, demonstrate her commitment to ensuring that every child, regardless of geography, has access to quality sporting facilities and opportunities to pursue their dreams.
Sonia Fulford Missick has also championed the development of the country’s first athletics dormitory facility, an ambitious initiative that reflects her long-term commitment to athlete development and sporting excellence.
Under her leadership, football in the Turks and Caicos Islands has experienced remarkable growth. Our athletes continue to receive increased local, regional and international exposure through expanded competitions, development programmes and strategic partnerships, creating opportunities that are shaping the next generation of footballers.
Her contributions have not gone unnoticed. In recognition of her outstanding service to sport, on October 24th, 2015, she was inducted into the Turks and Caicos Islands Sports Hall of Fame, joining an elite group of individuals whose contributions have left a lasting mark on our nation’s sporting history.
Leadership of this calibre is never accidental. It is intentional, courageous and driven by an unwavering belief that others can achieve greatness.
