Opening of the Ministry of Education Building

Opening of the Ministry of Education Building

On Monday, November 16, 2020, the newly renovated Ministry of Education Building was officially opened by the Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Honourable Sharlene Cartwright-Robinson and the Minister of Education, Youth, Culture, Social and Library Services, the Honourable Karen Malcolm.

The passing of two hurricanes in 2017, Irma and Maria, severely damaged and impacted the building forcing the staff to relocate to Franklyn Misick’s Building.  The Ministry openly express its sincere gratitude to Mr. Misick for his generous gift of one year of free accommodations to the Turks and Caicos Islands Government.

Achieving this milestone would not have been possible without the dedicated construction personnel who have proudly and tirelessly worked on the site for the past year and whom we extend sincere appreciation.  The Ministry of Education would also like to thank the Ministry of Infrastructure for their unwavering support.

The brief ceremony saw the attendance of Her Excellency Deputy Governor, Mrs. Anya Williams; Honourable Premier, Sharlene Cartwright-Robinson; Minister for Education, Honourable Karen Malcolm and other Ministers of Government.  The ceremony was chaired by Mr. Amin McCartney, the Acting Permanent Secretary of Education and consecrated by Reverend Claire K. Robinson.

The completion of this building, a critical milestone, comes at a time when the Ministry of Education is rebranding its image to increase awareness.  This rebranding will set the Ministry of Education apart from the other Ministries.  It will allow the Ministry of Education to reflect on its strengths, values and mission as a place of learning, preparing future leaders, equipping them as future leaders of society.

The rebranding of the Ministry of Education will include a full campaign which will include community awareness, allowing the community to grow to appreciate and understand the mission of the Ministry of Education.  This campaign will not be a one-time campaign but a continuous effect which will be incorporated in all aspects of the Ministry’s initiatives; a campaign that will continue to promote the Ministry of Education and will attract and inspire the community.
