Opening of the Mary Robinson Primary School

Press Release

Opening of the Mary Robinson Primary School

Tuesday, 1st December 2020 marked the re-opening of the newly renovated Mary Robinson Primary School on the island of Salt Cay by the Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands, Hon. Sharlene Cartwright-Robinson and the Minister of Education, Youth, Culture, Social and Library Services, the Hon. Karen Malcolm.

The school was among other government estates that suffered damages as a result of the two hurricanes in 2017, namely Irma and Maria, which caused the closing of the school and the displacement of students to the Methodist Sunday School on Salt Cay.

The Ministry of Education credited this milestone to the dedicated staff of the Public Works Department and the committed contractor, Salt Cay Building Services, who saw the undertaking of this project not only as a job but their duty to see that the work was completed, and the beloved Mary Robinson Primary School returned to the community of Salt Cay.

Other notable persons in attendance at the ceremony were the Deputy Premier, Hon. Sean Astwood, Hon. Edwin Astwood, Hon. Ralph Higgs, Hon. Goldray Ewing, Government Appointed Member, Hon. Maxovanno Thomas, the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Amin McCartney, and District Commissioners Mrs. Almaida Wilson, Mr. Noel Hamilton and the residents of Salt Cay. They all joined the Premier, and Minister of Education, along with the teacher and students of the School for the ceremonial ribbon cutting in declaration of the School being officially reopened.
