Turks and Caicos celebrates GIS Day, 2020

The Department of Environment & Coastal Resources (DECR) will be celebrating Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Day, 2020, under the theme “Share your passion and inspire the world with GIS”.

GIS Day, which falls on the 18^th of November and was started in 1999, provides an international forum for users of GIS technology to demonstrate real-world applications that are making a difference in our society. GIS Day celebrates and recognizes the innovative ways in which GIS technologies are used to provide increased efficiency and the delivery of critical services to citizens by government agencies and private corporations. This technology is employed to address problems and challenges in many critical areas including emergency response, environmental protection, health care, public works, zoning and land use, business site selection and many other areas.

A virtual workshop is to be held on November 18^th; various public and private organisations, as well as local high schools, have been invited to attend with the opportunity to discover and explore the benefits of GIS on a local, regional and international scale.
