TEMPORARY CLOSURE NOTICE FOR A CLASS AT ELIZA SIMONS PRIMARY SCHOOL

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands, 30 January 2026 — Please be advised that a class at Eliza Simons Primary School is closed today, January 30th, 2026, until Monday, February 2nd, 2026. Parents of the affected students have already been notified through internal communication. This decision has been taken in response to an increasing number of students presenting with symptoms of influenza-like illness.

To safeguard the health and wellbeing of the wider school community, the Primary Health Care Team will conduct an on-site assessment and guide the implementation of appropriate public health and sanitation measures. Parents and guardians are reminded that children who are unwell must remain at home. It has been observed that too many students have continued to attend school despite showing symptoms of illness, which significantly increases the risk of virus transmission within the school environment.

Parents are therefore strongly urged to keep children at home if they are experiencing flu-like symptoms, seek medical attention, and ensure they return to school only after they have fully recovered. This collective responsibility is essential to prevent further spread of illness and to protect both students and staff.
Parents and guardians are kindly reminded to reinforce proper hygiene practices with their children, including:
  • Frequent handwashing with soap and water
  • Covering coughs and sneezes
  • Avoiding touching the face and mouth, as well as the faces of others
  • Washing hands before preparing and eating food
  • Washing hands thoroughly after using the bathroom
Please seek medical advice if you or your child is experiencing any flu-like illness. Where possible, provide samples to your public healthcare provider, as this greatly assists the health team in identifying hotspot areas and guiding appropriate public health interventions.

We appreciate your understanding, cooperation, and vigilance as we work together to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for all.
