STATISTICS DEPARTMENT RELEASES 2019 VITAL STATISTICS REPORT AND 2020 FIRST QUARTER BIRTHS AND TRADE BULLETINS

 

The Department of Statistics is pleased to release the results of the above named report and bulletins.  

 

Vital Statistics Report 2019

The Vital Statistics Report for 2019 highlights the estimated population and other vital indicators, such as births, deaths, marriages and divorces for the period 2001 to 2019. The reports show that the mid-year population of the TCI was estimated at 41,360 and 42,953 in 2018 and 2019, respectively. It also highlights that the Turks and Caicos Islands recorded 487 live births in 2019, which was 7.0 percent higher than the 455 births recorded in 2018.

The number of deaths fluctuated over the period 2001 to 2019, with the highest number of deaths (125) being recorded in 2017. It must be pointed out, that included in these deaths for the period under consideration are Haitian nationals who drowned in TCI waters as well as other visitors who would have died while in the TCI.

A total of 415 marriages were registered in 2019 compared to 464 marriages in 2018.

NB: It should be noted that this publication gives an account mainly of events that physically occur and was recorded in the TCI.

 

Births Bulletin 2020 (1st Quarter)

The Births Bulletin highlights that the Turks and Caicos Islands recorded 104 births during the first quarter of 2020.  52.9 percent of live births were males and 47.1 percent were females.  A comparison of births by nationality of the mother for the first quarter reveal that 29.8 percent were to TCI nationals, 52.9 percent of the live births were to Haitian nationals and the remaining 17.3 percent were to other nationalities.  The majority of births for the first quarter of 2020 were from mothers in the 30 to 34 age group.

 

Trade Bulletin 2020 (1st Quarter)

The Turks and Caicos Islands Merchandise Imports totaled approximately $120.6 million for the first quarter of 2020, representing an increase of 3.4 percent when compared to the same period in 2019.  Exports from the Turks and Caicos during this period were valued at $1.3 million when compared to $2.8 million during the first quarter of 2019.  This resulted in an overall merchandise trade balance of approximately ($119.3) million during the first quarter of 2020.
