PRESS RELEASE

INTERNATIONAL MEN’S DAY 2020

The Department of Gender Affairs under the Ministry of Education, Youth, Culture, Social and Library Services, will join with the rest of the world in observance of International Men’s Day which is held on November 19.  The theme designated for this year’s celebration is “Men leading by Example: Recognizing the Excellence in Them”.

International Men’s Day is a global celebration which aims to celebrate the positive values men contribute to the world, their families and the community at large.  It highlights the positive role models men are and raise awareness to various issues that affect men and their wellbeing.  The website designated for International Men’s Day further stated; “International Men’s Day encourages men to teach the boys in their lives the values, character and responsibilities of being a man. Mahatma Gandhi said, “We must become the change we seek.”  It is only when we all, both men and women, lead by example that we will create a fair and safe society which allows everyone the opportunity to prosper.”

As customary, the Department will be hosting an activity that will seek to empower, encourage and uplift our men.  As with most activities this year, the session will be hosted virtually via the Department’s Facebook page – Turks and Caicos Islands Department of Gender Affairs on Wednesday, November 18, at 6:00pm.

The speakers selected for this very important occasion are known worldwide within the sphere of influence. They include Rev. Dr. Jamal Harrison Bryant, Emmanuel Lewis, and Mr. Thomas W. Dortch Jr.

We solicit your support as we celebrate and uplift the men in our community.
