FIRST BATCH OF CASH GRANTS TO ELIGIBLE EMPLOYEES IN THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY UPLOADED TODAY TO BANK ACCOUNTS

The Turks and Caicos Islands Government has today, Friday, 8th May, 2020, uploaded to bank accounts the first batch of payments to employees of the Tourism and Hospitality Sector, who were impacted by the economic fallout and business closures emanating from the enforcement of the Emergency Powers (COVID 19) (Amendment) Regulations 2020 that came into effect on 30th March, 2020.
 
Employees will see payments rolling out on a continuous basis over the next few weeks, as the required vetting processes are completed.  Persons receiving early payments would have submitted complete information, resulting in a seamless process to payout.
 
Every step towards validation has been automated; so the names of applicants benefitting, flow randomly through the system. Where there is an anomaly, human intervention may be necessary; but solely for the purpose of contacting an applicant and asking him/her to clarify a matter or provide additional information. The Compliance Team will be contacting those applicants with issues.
 
A significant amount of applicants, would have provided information that was erroneous, or incomplete, resulting in extensive vetting. There were also many duplicated applications; and even in the duplicating, applicants provided dissimilar information resulting in the need for even further vetting.
 
We encourage persons who have not yet submitted, to recheck their application forms to verify the accuracy of the information. The extensive vetting of submissions highlighted many errors such as incorrect bank accounts, wrong names, etc. This resulted in additional compliance issues. Accurate information allows for smoother processing and payments.
 
We likewise encourage persons to submit information that is factual as there are a few verification levels and the system will be able to detect false submissions.
 
Our processing teams are working assiduously to ensure that payments go to the banks accounts as soon as possible; meanwhile, persons receiving cheques will be advised when they can collect them at their local Treasury.
