DEPARTMENT OF TRADE SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDES CONSUMER PROTECTION WEEK 2026, STRENGTHENING CONSUMER AWARENESS AND BUSINESS COMPLIANCE

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands 23 March 2026  The Department of Trade, Industry and Fair Competition successfully concluded Consumer Protection Week 2026, engaging consumers and businesses across the Turks and Caicos Islands through a series of targeted outreach initiatives aimed at strengthening consumer awareness, promoting compliance and building trust between consumers and providers.

Observed under the overarching theme, “Building Trust, Protecting Communities,” the week’s activities reinforced the Department’s commitment to fostering a fair, transparent and consumer-focused business environment.

Throughout the week, the Department hosted the following events:

Consumer Information Help Desk – Tuesday, March 10th, 2026

Held in front of the Treasury Building under the theme “Know Your Rights”, this event engaged members of the public by providing guidance on consumer protection laws and the role of the Department. Consumers received informational materials on consumer protection as well as the Department’s contact details.

Providers Business Forum – Thursday, March 12th, 2026

Hosted at the Atrium Resort under the theme “Review of Supplier Obligations to Consumers”, this forum brought together members of the business communities across the Turks and Caicos Islands to engage with Consumer Officers. Discussions focused on compliance with the Consumer Protection Ordinance to avoid penalties. Business owners also learned about the benefits of consumer protection, including the creation of a business-friendly marketplace where consumers return because their rights are respected.

Consumer Resource Fair – Friday, March 13th, 2026

Held in front of the Treasury Building under the theme “Consumer Protection is Everyone’s Business”, this event provided a platform for interaction between both consumers and providers. Selected providers were invited to set up booths as an opportunity to interact with the public, demonstrate their support for consumer rights, connect with existing customers, and attract new ones. Attendees learnt about provider obligations and how to file complaints with the Trade Department when issues arise.

Consumer Empowerment & Thanksgiving Service – Sunday, March 15th, 2026

The week concluded with a Thanksgiving Service hosted at the Wesleyan Methodist Church under the theme “Building Trust, Protecting Communities”. The service formed part of the Department’s continued outreach efforts to connect with the wider community and reinforce the shared responsibility of consumer protection.

The Department emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between consumers and businesses:
“Consumer Protection Week serves as a critical reminder that a fair and well-functioning marketplace depends on both informed consumers and responsible providers. The Department remains committed to strengthening awareness, enhancing compliance, and working collaboratively with stakeholders to build a culture of trust and accountability across the Turks and Caicos Islands.”

The Department of Trade, Industry and Fair Competition extends sincere appreciation to all stakeholders, partners, businesses, and members of the public who contributed to the success of this year’s activities.

As the Department continues its mandate, it will pursue additional initiatives to educate consumers, support businesses, and promote adherence to consumer protection laws, ensuring that the marketplace remains equitable, transparent, and responsive to the needs of all.
