A. LOUISE GARLAND THOMAS HIGH SCHOOL WINS FIFTH STRAIGHT INTER-HIGH TITLE AS ONA GLINTON CLAIMS INTER-PRIMARY CHAMPIONSHIP

Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands - Friday, 27th March 2026: The Turks and Caicos Islands Sports Commission, in partnership with the Turks and Caicos Amateur Athletics Association (TCAAA), successfully hosted the annual Inter-High and Inter-Primary Track and Field Championships, bringing together student-athletes from across the islands for two weekend events of spirited competition, athletic excellence, and community celebration.

These dual championships form a comprehensive pathway that begins with early talent identification at the primary level and progresses through secondary competition, ensuring our young athletes receive structured support from their very first steps in sport.

The championships featured over 900 student-athletes representing primary and secondary schools competing across a full programme of track and field events at the National Stadium.

At the conclusion of the Inter-High championships, A. Louise Garland Thomas High School secured the national championship title for the fifth consecutive year, marking a remarkable run of dominance in secondary school athletics and reflecting the dedication of the school’s athletes, coaches, and leadership. Ona Glinton Primary School claimed victory at the 2026 Inter-Primary championships, highlighting the importance of investing in early talent identification and nurturing the immense potential of our youngest athletes at this critical stage of their development.

Final team standings for Inter-High 2026 were as follows:

1st Place – A. Louise Garland Thomas High School

2nd Place – Clement Howell High School

3rd Place – British West Indies Collegiate

Final team standings for Inter-Primary 2026 were as follows:

1st Place – Ona Glinton Primary School

2nd Place – Enid Capron Primary School

3rd Place – Oseta Jolly Primary School

Athletes across multiple divisions delivered outstanding performances throughout the championships, with several long-standing records broken during the competitions. Both events once again demonstrated the depth of talent emerging within the Turks and Caicos Islands school sports system, along with the importance of long-term athlete development.

The championships drew strong support from parents, alumni, and members of the wider community who filled the stands to cheer on the athletes representing their schools.

The Sports Commission also acknowledges the generous support of the sponsors who contributed to the success of the TCISS Inter-High and Inter-Primary Track and Field Championships. Minister of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture, Honourable Rachel Taylor, praised the athletes and organizers for delivering another successful championship.

Louise Garland Thomas High School on securing their fifth consecutive championship title. Events like this play an important role in building confidence, discipline, and opportunities for our youth.”

President of the Turks and Caicos Amateur Athletics Association, Edith Skippings, highlighted the importance of the championships in strengthening the national athletics pathway.

“Inter-High continues to be an important platform for identifying and nurturing young talent. Many of our national athletes begin their competitive journey here, and the performances we witnessed this year demonstrate the depth of talent emerging across our schools. The improvement of our athletes is also evident in the number of long-standing records that were broken during this year’s championships.”

Director of Sports and CEO of the Turks and Caicos Islands Sports Commission, Jarrett Forbes, emphasized the broader impact of the championships on youth development and the national sports ecosystem.

“From the foundational stage of Inter-Primary to the elite competition of Inter-High, these events demonstrate the power of sport to bring our communities together while providing young athletes with structured opportunities for early talent identification and long-term growth.
